There has been a marked increase in gas installations in homes over the past five years, especially due to loadshedding and the rising costs of electricity.
Home owners must take the necessary precautions, or face serious consequences if the installation is not completed properly. Gas installations that are not certified could affect insurance claims in the event of fires. Therefore, anyone considering installing a gas stove or fireplace must remember that a gas installation must have a certificate issued, by a competent person.
Regulation 17 (3) of the Pressure Equipment Regulations states that a certificate of compliance must be issued to the owner of the residence after completion of a gas installation, modification, alteration or change of user or ownership.
